Since childhood, have you heard about the word “Catholic”? Maybe this word is no longer new to you. You are may be familiar with this word a long time ago. And may be, you are even knowledgeable about this term. But, there are still others who don™t know what this word means. So much for that, Catholic literally means “universal”.

However, are you not interested in where did this term come from? What is the origin of this word? Well, for you to know, the word “Catholic” was first used in the early second century. Catholic was used to describe the Christian Church. This is to emphasize its universal scope.

When we say Christians, these are people who believe and follow Christ. However, they are people who are divided yet still united in their faith. What I mean divided is that, they actually have different denominations. And the Catholic Church is just another denomination within Christianity.

The Catholic Church actually has many followers, from the east to the west. They are everywhere. With approximately billions of people who are already baptized as Catholic. I may never know, maybe you are also one of them.

According to my source, in today™s terms, the Catholic Church also refers to the institutional church, the one that recognizes the pope as its leader. Their people are bonded by their beliefs and practices.

According to one of my sources, the early Catholics were actually artistic. There was a multitude of artistic expressions of Catholicism. But, we can no longer trace it today even though it really existed. There are actually reasons why these arts have not survived.

On the contrary, whatever reason they actually have, we can still see that there are catholic symbols that are surrounding us nowadays. Like for example the bible. You may be familiar with this one. Even the rosary, no wonder you already heard about this and how this thing is being use.
